Apenisa Maracava and fellow Queen Victoria School student Waisake Baidrau delivered a strong performance for their school, claiming gold and bronze respectively in the Boys’ Intermediate Long Jump final on Day 1 of the Coca-Cola Games 2026 at the HFC Bank Stadium.
Maracava won with a jump of 6.77 metres, while Baidrau managed a leap of 6.62 metres.
Speaking to fijivillage Sports, Maracava says he is excited about the win and dedicated it to the students back at school and to his father for always supporting him.
The 17-year-old says preparing for the event was difficult, and he faced several challenges, including not having proper shoes or proper training wear.
He adds that the encouragement from his coaches and fellow students kept him motivated.
Meanwhile, Voase Naivalu of Xavier College settled for silver with a leap of 6.75 metres.
