Search and rescue operations continue for 9 missing fishermen - Fiji Navy

Search and rescue operations are continuing for the nine fishermen reported missing at sea after they failed to return from waters around Kadavu over the past few days.

The search is being coordinated by the Rescue Coordination Centre Fiji, with the Republic of Fiji Navy working closely with the Fiji Police Force and other supporting agencies.

The RFNS Timo departed for the designated search area to strengthen ongoing maritime search efforts.

The Republic of Fiji Navy says support has also been provided by the Royal New Zealand Air Force, which has deployed air support to assist in the search operation.

They say over the past few days, search efforts have been supported by local communities, hotel operators, including Kokomo Island, and local air service providers who have assisted authorities in covering areas of interest.

The Navy says their support has been invaluable and reflects the importance of collective effort during maritime emergencies.

They say the last known position of the missing group, as provided by relatives, is believed to be in the area around Solo Lighthouse, north of Kadavu.

The Navy says search efforts remain active, and authorities are continuing to assess all available information to guide operations.

They are requesting the public to assist authorities by immediately reporting any sightings, information, floating debris, or unusual activity at sea that may be linked to the missing personnel.

The Navy says villagers and coastal communities in Kadavu, Beqa, the Coral Coast, and surrounding areas are also requested to remain vigilant and to report any information through their Turaga ni Koro, the nearest Police Station, or local authorities.

The Fiji Navy, through the Rescue Coordination Centre Fiji, will continue to work closely with the Fiji Police Force and all supporting partners as search efforts continue.

They say their thoughts remain with the families of the missing personnel during this difficult time.

The Navy says every effort is being made to locate them, and they are grateful for the support of local communities, private operators, and their regional partners who have come forward to assist.
 
They add that further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
