The Employment Relations Bill 2025 is currently before the Parliamentary Standing Committee for scrutiny and will be tabled in Parliament next month following completion of the review.
Minister for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations, Agni Deo Singh, met with members of the Nadi Chamber of Commerce last Friday, where he shared progress on the Employment Relations Bill 2025.

He says the Bill is with the Standing Committee following extensive nationwide consultations, with additional time being used to ensure all stakeholder views are fully considered and reflected in the final legislation.
Singh says the extended review demonstrates the Government’s focus on getting the reforms right and building confidence among both workers and employers.
The Minister adds that this Bill is about achieving the right balance between protecting workers while supporting businesses to grow and create jobs.

He says extending the review allows them to carefully consider all submissions and ensure the final legislation is fair, practical, and forward-looking.
Singh says the reforms are also designed to align Fiji’s labour framework with international standards, including those set by the International Labour Organization, while strengthening the overall credibility of the employment relations system.
Alongside the legislative review, the Minister says the Government is intensifying its efforts to address workforce challenges, particularly skills shortages and productivity.
He says measures already underway include the reopening of technical and vocational training centres, expanded scholarships, and an incentivised apprenticeship scheme to support workforce development and reduce reliance on foreign labour.
Singh says strengthening the workforce is central to these reforms, and addressing the skills gap will improve productivity and ensure more Fijians are equipped to take up available opportunities.
