Today's planned march against proposed waste to energy project disallowed by Police
Saweni Beach - Protect the Heritage Coast -Vuda, Saweni
Organisers of the march against the proposed waste to energy project in Vuda scheduled for today will no longer be going ahead as at 4pm yesterday — the organising committee was advised that the march has been disallowed following direction from Lautoka Police.

The Vuda - Saweni Community Opposition Committee says this decision comes despite all required approvals having already been secured from the Lautoka City Council and Fiji Roads Authority, and after ongoing discussions with Fiji Police throughout the week in preparation for a safe and peaceful event.

They say no reason for the cancellation of the march was given.

The committee says they understand that many of the people had planned to march with them or stand in solidarity along the route, and they share the people's disappointment at this last-minute development.

They say the march was intended to be a peaceful, community-led show of unity and concern regarding the proposed waste-to-energy incinerator at Naikorokoro Point.

The committee says while this opportunity has been taken away at the eleventh hour, their collective voice and commitment remain strong.

They ask everyone to remain calm and respectful.

They say further updates on alternative ways to show support and stay involved will be shared shortly.

We have contacted Police on why the march was disallowed.

They are yet to respond.
