Paula Vonolagi stormed home to win gold for Suva Grammar School in the 100 metres Blue Ribbon final.
The son of former Fiji 7s player Sakeasi Vonolagi finished strongly with a time of 10.76 seconds.
Tension ran high among the athletes, with nerves evident after an initial false start.
A second false start led to the disqualification of a Grammar runner, but Vonolagi rose above the setback, winning the race for Grammar and restoring pride in the final.
In the Senior Girls’ 100 metres final, Lidia Waqairapoa secured gold for Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School in a time of 12.48 seconds.
Grammar’s Jolame Suguturaga delivered a powerful finish to claim gold in the Intermediate Boys 100 metres final.
In the Intermediate Girls’ category, Sera Nasilivata exploded off the blocks to win gold in style for MGM.Kirikiti Biu took gold for Marist in the Junior Boys’ 100 metres event while Tarusila Naiyala of Jasper Williams High School won gold in the Junior Girls’ division.
Josese Murimurivalu of QVS defied the odds to win gold in the Sub-Junior Boys’ 100 metres final, recovering from a slow start with a strong finish. The son of former Flying Fijians fullback Kini Murimurivalu, and a former Holy Trinity student, used his powerful long stride to secure the gold medal.
In the Sub-Junior Girls’ category, Sainimere Mole won gold for MGM.

14-year-old Iliesa Tuimereke of Ra High School is aiming for gold in the 800 metres sub-junior final after winning his heat this morning.
Tuimereke, who is originally from Mataso, thanked his parents for buying him track shoes.
He also acknowledged Master Peter for helping with his training.
Meanwhile, Sela Bulou Ravu won the 800 metres sub-junior girls’ heat.
The 800 metres finals will start at 11.45am tomorrow.

MGM High School is leading the girls division while Queen Victoria School is in first place in the boys category in the fijivillage Coca Cola medal tally.
MGM High leads the girls division with 7 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze, Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Memorial School is in second place with 3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze and Jasper Williams High School is in third place with 2 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze.
QVS is leading with 5 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze, Marist Brothers High School is in second place with 4 gold and 2 silver medals and Ratu Kadavulevu School and Suva Grammar School are tied at third place with 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
Day 2 kicked off with the 800 metres heats this morning.
The 4x100 metres relay heats is underway, 400 metres finals at 3pm, and the 4x100 metres finals at 4.15pm today.
In the field events, we will have the Intermediate Boys Javelin, Intermediate Girls Discus, Sub Junior Boys High Jump, Intermediate Girls Long Jump, Sub Junior Boys Shot Put, Junior Boys Javelin, Junior Girls Discus, Senior Girls High Jump and Senior Boys Long Jump.
Looking at some of the results this morning, John Uluilakeba of MGM broke the sub-junior high jump record, Salanieta Vereivalu of RSMS won gold in the intermediate girls discus and Ebenezer Saukuru of Marist claimed gold in the intermediate boys javelin.

John Uluilakeba of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School has set a new record in the Sub Junior Boys High Jump at the 2026 Coca-Cola Games.
Uluilakeba jumped a height of 1.77 metres beating the previous 1.76 metres set by John Vugakoto of Suva Grammar School last year.
Senico Francis of Holy Cross College won silver, while Joni Tabuya of Tavua College got bronze.

Adi Liveta of Bua Central College delivered one of the more unexpected victories at the Coca-Cola Games in Suva, claiming gold in the Intermediate Girls Long Jump with a jump of 5.15 metres.
Hailing from Kubulau in Bua, with maternal links to Wainunu, Adi Liveta says the achievement came as a surprise, admitting she had not anticipated winning a gold medal.
Adi Liveta says she is a long-distance runner and has only recently tried long jump in school, and it worked out for her.
She says training camp posed several challenges, including strict dietary controls that often left her feeling hungry.
Despite the difficulties, Adi Liveta says she remained focused, drawing strength from her faith and the support of her family back home in Vanua Levu.

18-year-old Ratu Apenisa Navukitu won the gold medal for Lelean Memorial School in the Senior Boys Long Jump at the 2026 Coca-Cola Games, with a jump of 6.96 metres.
Originally from Navolau, Ra, Navukitu dedicated his award to his parents, who have supported him throughout his journey.
He also dedicated his win to his coaches, friends and his school.
The third eldest among four siblings told fijivillage News that he could not believe it when officials told him that he had won his event.
He said one of his biggest challenges was balancing his school studies with training.
Meanwhile, Queen Victoria School’s Mosese Koroitunidau won silver with 6.95 metres, while Marist Brothers High School’s Frederico Miller claimed bronze with 6.69 metres.

Miller, who was showing impressive form, was only able to take two jumps due to a hamstring injury.

Mesake Turuva and Adi Ceva Lutumailagi of Natabua High School won gold in the Senior Boys and Girls 400 metres finals at the 2026 Coca-Cola Games.
Turuva having won his third gold since 2024, showed class, leading from start to finish, while Adi Ceva faced no challenge as she cruised to victory.
While speaking to fijivillage Sports, Turuva says has thanked God for the win and has dedicated it to his school, the principal, teachers and the students and family of Lonehats - boarders.Â
He has also dedicated this win to his parents and to the supporters of Natabua.Â
Turuva hopes to join the Police Force and work for the government after high school.
Meanwhile, Adi Ceva, who hails from Namotomoto in Nadi with maternal links to Levuka delivered a powerful performance to retain her title in the same event she has won since her earlier secondary school years.
Overcome with emotion after her victory, Lutumailagi told fijivillage Sports the moment was both exciting and surprising.
She says behind her consistent achievements lies a demanding routine, as she balances the pressures of academic life with an intense training schedule.
Adi Ceva says it was tiring keeping up with training and making it to class on time, and also completing all the runs set by the coaches.Â
Lutumailagi also highlighted the discipline required off the track, noting the challenges of maintaining a strict diet.
She shared that it was stressful, sticking to the same diet and cutting out favourite foods.
She dedicated her victory to those who have supported her journey, paying tribute to her parents, coaches and wider support network.
She also acknowledged her grandmother, who was unable to attend but remains one of her biggest supporters.
In other results, Adi Matetaka Salaseini of Nakorotubu Secondary School won gold in the sub-junior girls, Sakaraia Raiqavi of Marist Brothers High School claimed gold in the sub-junior boys, Makelesi Lailai of Vaturova Koroalau High School won gold in the junior girls, Elijah Vakacegu of Suva Grammar School claimed gold in the junior boys, Sesenieli Rasoki of Suva Grammar won gold in the intermediate girls, and Asaeli Nagado of Marist claimed gold in the intermediate boys.

Senieli Rasoki of Suva Grammar School produced a commanding performance to secure gold in the Intermediate Girls 400 metres final at the Coca-Cola Games in Suva this afternoon.Â
Hailing from Serua, with maternal links to Kadavu, Rasoki told fijivillage Sports that she rose above a strong field to clinch victory, adding another proud achievement to Suva Grammar’s athletics legacy.
Following her win, Rasoki dedicated the achievement to those who played a significant role in her journey, particularly her family, supporters and school community.
She says she was most grateful towards her coach Jone Delai for the time he scarificed to traun her.
Rasoki also acknowledged her roots, extending the victory to those back in her village.
