To improve security and combat crime, solar-powered smart CCTV surveillance posts are being set up in key areas by the Nasinu Town Council to enhance community safety and deter illegal activities.
In partnership with the Fiji Police Force, the Council says the cameras will help monitor illegal dumping, suspicious movements, unsafe shortcuts, and rising criminal activities, including drug-related offences and robberies.
The Council acknowledges residents who have allowed the installation of CCTV posts on their properties, describing their support as vital to improving safety across the municipality.
The system is fully solar-powered and off-grid, meaning it can operate without electricity, even during extended cloudy or rainy conditions.
Council says the cameras are also weatherproof and cyclone-resistant, ensuring continuous monitoring during extreme weather.
They further stress the cameras are equipped with AI technology, that can detect human and vehicle movement, capture number plates, and assist in tracking across different areas, improving police response and investigations.
The Council says the initiative is part of its plan to improve efficiency, strengthen enforcement, and move towards becoming a smarter and safer town.
It adds that the project highlights the importance of collaboration between the Council, Police, and residents in building a secure and resilient Nasinu.
