Hungarian national remanded for allegedly importing over 4kg of meth

A Hungarian national charged with allegedly importing and possessing over 4 kilograms of methamphetamine has been remanded in custody by the Lautoka High Court.

Fonta Laszlo is facing one count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs and one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

It is alleged that on 17th April this year, Laszlo unlawfully imported and possessed 4.8697 kilograms of methamphetamine.

The court heard that he was intercepted by authorities at Nadi International Airport where screening of his passenger baggage allegedly revealed drugs concealed inside the luggage.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has sought time to file information and full disclosures.

Counsel for the accused informed the court that Laszlo only speaks Hungarian and Russian, and the court advised that a suitable interpreter will be arranged for the proceedings.

The matter has been adjourned to May 19th.
