To strengthen the accuracy of Fiji’s voter list and improve confidence in the electoral system, the Fijian Elections Office and the Ministry of Immigration have formalised a new partnership.
The agreement will allow the Elections Office to verify passport and citizenship details during voter registration, helping ensure the National Register of Voters remains accurate and up to date, including identifying individuals who are no longer Fijian citizens.
Supervisor of Elections Ana Mataiciwa says this will also improve voter registration and nomination processes, while supporting better services for Fijians both locally and overseas, including planning for overseas voter registration.
Mataiciwa says the partnership marks an important milestone in strengthening cooperation and public trust in the system.
Permanent Secretary for Immigration Aliki Salusalu adds that the agreement provides a practical framework for secure and responsible information sharing between the two institutions.
Both organisations have assured that all shared data will be handled in line with legal requirements, with proper safeguards and confidentiality measures in place.
As Fiji prepares for upcoming elections, the two agencies say this collaboration will play a key role in ensuring the process remains credible, transparent, and reliable.
