Non-compliant commercial businesses are being targeted in a renewed push to improve trade waste management, following a joint awareness initiative carried out yesterday by the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF)and the Nasinu Town Council.
WAF says the initiative focuses on strengthening compliance among businesses that fail to meet trade waste requirements, while also protecting critical infrastructure and the environment.
It says the programme emphasises the need for managing waste at the source, installing approved pre-treatment systems, and ensuring liquid trade waste is treated before being discharged into its infrastructure.
The Authority adds that improper disposal of trade waste continues to place pressure on public systems, making enforcement and awareness crucial.
It further states that it will continue working closely with stakeholders and municipal councils, stressing that trade waste management remains a shared responsibility.
The Water Authority of Fiji also confirms that following a similar engagement with the Nausori Town Council, the initiative will be expanded to the Western and Northern Divisions to boost awareness and compliance across the country.
