UN pays tribute to the late Satya Nandan

The United Nations has paid tribute to the late Satya Nandan, who was Fiji’s 1st diplomat to the UN.

The UN says Nandan leaves behind a shining legacy of scholarship, mentorship and friendship - an inspiration for the Pacific.

The Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes says Nandan was an impressive figure who served his country and our region with distinction.

Feakes says ee played an integral role in finalising the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, which continues to shape the world’s peaceful and sustainable enjoyment of the oceans.

Nandan was awarded the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE)(Fiji)in 1978. In 1996 he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Nandan was awarded the Companion of the Order of Fiji (CF)in 2001.
