A total of $620,000 has been given to 9 leasing tenants and their families who have been affected by the Nausori Airport Extension Project.

While giving the stage 2 of the compensation payment, Minister for Lands, Jone Usamate says more than 40 affected leasing tenants of both State and I-Taukei owned land had willingly given whole or part of their leased properties for the project.

He says $663,700 has been fairly paid out as compensation in stage 1 of the project which has benefitted 13 affected leasing tenants.

Usamate says the Ministry will continue to work in collaboration with the rest of the tenants and other stakeholders like TLTB and Fiji Airports Limited in finalising Land Acquisition matters for the 3rd and final stage of this project and ensure everyone is fairly compensated for giving their land.

Meanwhile, Nausori Airport Extension was initiated in 2013 for the expansion of the Nausori Runaway and Pavement Infrastructure.

The Minister says the Nausori Airport Extension Project is worth $60 million for which the Prime Minister had officiated the ground breaking ceremony in September, 2018.
