Barter for Better Facebook member Vasenai Lauta gave away more than 33 dozens of cupcakes yesterday in exchange for groceries for the people affected by Tropical Cyclone Harold in Kadavu.

The Facebook page has over 29,000 members in just about a week.

Page admin, Marlene Dutta says the page is for people to get the things that they may need or want if they did not have money to spare.

Lauta says she is overwhelmed by the response of the people because of the barter system initiative.

She says she has been trying to collect groceries for the past two weeks.

Lauta adds that people came to give because of their passion to give to those affected and at the same time for their love for cupcakes.

She adds that the trade was for groceries only and all other donations are also welcomed.

She has collected several buckets of biscuits, bags of rice, flour, sugar, cans of tuna, a few bottles of cooking oil, diapers, baby wipes, bathing soap, noodles, cookies, salt, 9 bags of clothes and a bag of shoes.

Lauta adds that the drive will continue on Tuesday and Thursday outside Cost-U-Less in Laucala Bay and she will bake as many cupcakes as she can because people of Kadavu need the supplies.

They had initially targeted to assist about 20 to 30 households. However, Lauta says that it will be a blessing if they can reach 50 households in Kadavu.

She intends to leave for Kadavu in the next two weeks.
