Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar says residential homes are not a place for the elderly and is urging families to take care of their fathers and not to abandon them.
While speaking at the Father's Day celebration at the Golden Age Home in Samabula, Akbar says how can children simply abandon their parents when they are not able to walk properly or are weak.
She is also urging children to make peace with their father or grandfather in the old age homes.
Akbar says she grew up in a domestic violent environment but she acknowledged her father today.
She further says it is a great achievement that all residents who had tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered.
28 out of 50 residents in the home had tested positive.
They have all since recovered and are also fully vaccinated.
