26 police officers and summary prosecutors have graduated from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Basic Prosecution Course.

These officers underwent a six-week theory and practical course designed to equip prosecutors with basic trial preparation and advocacy skills at the bar table.

The six-week course covered rules of evidence, legal ethics and analysis, advocacy and the filing of charges.

Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, Dr Andrew Jack says every year the DPP’s Office provides training for selected officers in order to hone their prosecutorial services at the bar table.

He says in order to qualify as police prosecutors, police officers need to pass the Basic Prosecution Course then proceed to the Advanced Prosecution Course which will be held later in the year.

These 26 officers will now go on to participate in the ODPP Advanced National Prosecution Course in July this year.
