From losing his father to earning a law degree, University of Fiji graduate Yuvkesh Naicker’s journey reflects resilience, faith, and determination to succeed against the odds.
Naicker, who was born and raised in Nadi, successfully completed his Bachelor of Laws last year, and is currently pursuing his Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
He grew up as the eldest son in a humble family with a strong sense of responsibility to lead by example and make his family proud.
However, his path was not without challenges, especially after the loss of his father in 2021.
Despite the emotional and financial struggles, he began his university journey in 2022, motivated to persevere.
Naicker has acknowledged the support he received from his mother, family, lecturers, church, and mentors throughout his journey.
He says there were many quiet battles and moments of doubt, but seeing his mother continue to work hard and never give up gave him the strength to keep going.
He says, above all, his success was made possible through faith, adding that it was not his strength, but God’s grace that carried him through.
During his time at the University of Fiji, Naicker also served as a G17 Fiji University Ambassador for SDG 4 – Quality Education in 2024, which allowed him to advocate for education and contribute to initiatives that support sustainable development.
He describes his time at the Justice Devendra Pathik School of Law as transformative, saying he was taught by experienced legal practitioners, former judges, and members of the legal fraternity.
He says the school does not just teach law but helps build character and prepares students to enter the profession with confidence.
Looking ahead, Naicker hopes to serve in the legal profession with integrity and help restore public confidence in the legal system.
He also aspires to one day enter Parliament as a young leader to contribute to shaping a better future.
