The situation in Yalalevu, Ba remains fragile after floodwaters that inundated homes yesterday have now receded, leaving residents to begin the difficult task of cleaning up and assessing the damage.

Speaking to fijivillage News, resident Manoj Sharma revealed that floodwaters entered his home after Namosau Creek burst its banks.

Sharma says showers began at around 4.30am yesterday and gradually intensified throughout the morning, accompanied by thunderstorms.

Sharma says that although evacuation centres were located near their homes, accessing them proved difficult due to the rising waters.

He says showers are currently being experienced, and residents are still being warned about possible flooding due to the adverse weather conditions.

He adds that while Yalalevu currently has water and electricity, other nearby areas are experiencing shortages.

Sharma says many households have suffered significant losses and families are now in urgent need of assistance.

He has also called on authorities to inspect the drainage systems in the area.

He says that most of the drains are blocked, and when the water level rises, residents face difficulties.

Meanwhile, a Flash Flood Warning remains in force for the whole of Viti Levu while a Flash Flood Alert is in force for the whole of Vanua Levu.

The Nadi Weather Office says an active trough of low pressure with associated active rain-bands and strong northwesterly winds continues to affects the country.
