The Suva Market is currently a hive of activity as people turned up in large numbers for the World Cancer Day Health Expo, marking the start of a week-long programme organised by the Fiji Cancer Society.
The expo, held at the Suva Market Women’s Accommodation from 9am to 3pm, forms part of activities leading up to World Cancer Day tomorrow at the Grand Pacific Hotel.
Similar programmes are also taking place in Lautoka.
Speaking to fijivillage News, Fiji Cancer Society Programmes Officer Shweta Kapoor says February is an important month for raising awareness about cancer and encouraging people to take charge of their health.
Ms Kapoor says the health expo aims to make essential health services more accessible by bringing them together under one roof, free of charge.

Kapoor says the response from the public has been encouraging, with hundreds expected to attend throughout the day.
She says cancer and NCDs affect many people, which is important to involve different organisations.
She is encouraging members of the public to take advantage of the free services on offer and to prioritise their health.
She adds that the society plans to continue rolling out similar outreach programmes around the country in the coming months, with updates to be shared through its official Facebook page.
