Western Police step up community crime prevention

Western Police step up community crime prevention
PC: Fiji Police Force

The Western Division Police are strengthening community-led crime prevention efforts, with volunteers playing a growing role in supporting safer neighbourhoods across the division.

This was highlighted during the Divisional Crime Prevention Committee meeting, where Divisional Police Commander Western, Senior Superintendent of Police Iakobo Vaisewa, acknowledged the increasing level of community involvement in crime prevention activities.

SSP Vaisewa says the Crime Prevention Committees are made up of dedicated volunteers, including retired civil servants, religious leaders, and community members with a strong passion for grassroots work.

He says it is encouraging to see the level of commitment, diversity of backgrounds, and skills being brought together to support policing efforts.

SSP Veisawa stresses that the first major task for the community policing unit and the Crime Prevention Committees will be the updating of community data.

He says accurate and up-to-date data is critical in helping police and community partners better understand and target the criminal environment.

SSP Vaisewa adds that the collection and sharing of data will support more effective planning, including identifying areas that require greater awareness programmes and targeted community visits as part of ongoing policing efforts.
