A song that boldly calls for a shift in leadership and perspective is set to make waves in Fiji’s music scene, as veteran artist and The University of Fiji's Music Director, Sailasa Tora releases his new song, 'Let the Women Rule Over the World', today.
The song is part of his first-ever musical album titled 'Nirvana’s Dream Part VIII', which also drops today.
The former member, writer and composer for Rosi Loa formerly known as Black Rose, describes the title 'Let the Women Rule the World' as intentionally provocative, noting that it invites reflection on leadership and the role women can play in shaping the nation’s future.
He says he believes that giving women greater responsibility in leadership positions could bring fresh perspectives and a different approach to governance.
Drawing from real-life examples, he points to figures such as Professor Shaista Shameem, Vice-Chancellor of University of Fiji, whose leadership he says has delivered positive and dynamic changes within the institution.

He says women bring unique energy and insight into decision-making, and he believes society stands to benefit from greater inclusion across all sectors — from politics and education to sports and medicine.
Tora adds that the album takes a distinctive approach, featuring no vocals and instead relying on layered rhythms, instrumentation and melody to tell a story.
Through traditional instruments such as the lali, tabla and dholak, combined with snare drums symbolising colonial influence, Tora says the work explores Fiji’s political history and cultural evolution.
He says he hopes the message resonates, not just as music, but as a conversation starter about leadership, inclusion and the direction of Fiji’s future.
