Democratic Rep. Jake Auchincloss of Massachusetts says that the US military operation in Venezuela and Nicolás Maduro’s capture has “nothing to do with narco-trafficking.”
Auchincloss says “this is blood for oil and it has got nothing to do with narco-trafficking as the drugs are mostly going to Europe, and cocaine is not the drug that is killing Americans, which is fentanyl coming from China."
He says this has always been about the fact that Venezuela has the world’s largest oil reserves.
Washington has justified the action by arguing that Maduro, his wife and other Venezuelan public figures are responsible for narco-terrorism, drug trafficking and other crimes — charges that Caracas rejects.
The Democratic Rep says Chevron has the contract and the Treasury Department’s permission to exploit those oil reserves, and Trump is making good on his campaign promise to the US oil majors.”
