Team Fiji Swimming had a strong outing last night at the XIV Oceania Swimming Championships 2026, winning medals in the finals.
David Tolu Young won Team Fiji's first gold medal in the Men's 50 metres freestyle with a time of 24.29 seconds.
He then collected his second gold in the Mixed 50 metres freestyle relay where he teamed up with Anahira McCutcheon, Hansel McCaig and Grace Khelan.

Young also won a bronze medal in the Mixed 4x100 metres Medley relay.
16-year-old Anahira McCutcheon also performed well last night, winning gold in the Women’s 50 metres butterfly, while Salote Leca collected bronze in the Women’s 1,500 metres freestyle.

Young says it felt really good winning Team Fiji's first gold medal in the pool and he dedicated his win to his family.
He says he has been preparing well for this competition and is looking forward to the rest of the tournament.
Meanwhile, McCutcheon says she is very proud to have won gold in front of the home crowd and her family.
She says she faced a few challenges ahead of this tournament, such as limited preparation time.

Today, the competition kicks off at 10am at the National Aquatic Centre with the men's and women's 400 metres heats. Events will also include the men's and women's 50 metres backstroke, the men's and women's 100 metres freestyle, the men's and women's 100 metres breaststroke, the men's and women's 4x200 metres freestyle relay and the mixed 4x50 metres Medley relay.
