State given 21 days to file supplementary affidavit in Pryde judicial review case

State given 21 days to file supplementary affidavit in Pryde judicial review case
The Civil High Court has granted the State 21 days to file a supplementary affidavit in the matter where Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde, has been granted leave to apply for a judicial review regarding issues relating to his pay.

Pryde is challenging the suspension of his salary and benefits, which was endorsed by the President on the advice of the Judicial Services Commission in July last year.

He claims the Commission failed to give him a hearing, that the suspension was inconsistent with the presumption of innocence, and that it did not properly assess complaints against him as required under the Constitution.

High Court Judge Justice Savenaca Banuve has also granted Pryde’s counsel, Shalvin Singh, 21 days to file their response.

Following a request by Singh, as Pryde is in New Zealand, Justice Banuve has allowed them to file a scanned copy of their response if necessary, followed by the hard copy.

The matter has been adjourned to April 17th for mention.
