Seaqaqa residents raise concerns over poor condition of Navidamu Road

Residents along Navidamu Road in Salove, Seaqaqa are struggling with ongoing issues caused by the poor condition of the road.

Speaking to fijivillage News, local resident Mohammed Khalil described the road as being full of potholes and prone to flooding during heavy rain.

He says the road which is not sealed, becomes slippery when wet, and sometimes vehicles get damaged just trying to pass through, which adds to their expenses.

Khalil says that the poor road conditions significantly slow down travel to Seaqaqa town.

He says this issue has been a matter of concern among residents for years.

Khalil is appealing to the government and relevant authorities to prioritise repairs to prevent accidents and make the road safe for the community.

Responding to questions sent by fijivillage News, the Fiji Roads Authority has confirmed that it has carried out maintenance and emergency repair works on Navidamu Road, but the route has sustained serious damage, particularly due to the movement of heavy logging trucks.

FRA has also reported damage to the roadside drainage system and is currently investigating the issue further.

With continuous heavy rainfall worsening the situation, FRA is advising drivers and pedestrians to be extremely cautious and avoid unnecessary travel along the affected route.
