Saif Ali Khan is set to bring a defining chapter of India’s history to the screen with Hum Hindustani, a period drama that traces the monumental task of conducting the country’s first democratic election.

The film is part of Netflix’s 2026 line-up.

Hum Hindustani mixes real history, strong emotions, and political drama and it focuses on the lesser-known people who helped build India’s democracy after Independence.

Set shortly after 1947, the film follows a team of government workers given the tough job of planning the country’s first nationwide election.

At the time, India was still recovering from Partition and colonial rule, and many believed a national election couldn’t be done.

The movie shows the courage and hard work of those who made it happen and helped protect every citizen’s right to vote.

Saif Ali Khan plays an honest officer who believes deeply in India’s democratic future while Pratik Gandhi plays another officer who struggles with the pressure and personal challenges of the task; together, their characters highlight the leadership and sacrifices behind one of India’s biggest political achievements.

The film’s release date has not been announced yet.
