As the Republic of Fiji Military Forces 1/88 pioneer servicewomen celebrated their 38th anniversary yesterday at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua, it marked a bold step toward inclusion.

Speaking at the church service, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says that despite initial doubts, the decision to enlist women was driven by the belief that service is defined by commitment, not gender.

Rabuka says over the years, the women of WRACS 1/88 proved that decision right by excelling in leadership roles, peacekeeping missions, and strategic responsibilities, while balancing significant personal sacrifices.

He says their service in countries such as East Timor, Lebanon, the Golan Heights, Sinai, and Iraq showcased their resilience and professionalism, making them ambassadors for Fiji abroad.

Reflecting as Prime Minister, he described this pioneer of servicewomen 1/88 as a lasting legacy that demonstrates how inclusion strengthens institutions and transforms future generations.

The Prime Minister also stated that their service paved the way for future generations of women in the military, breaking barriers and setting lasting standards.

The anniversary theme, Down Memory Lane, reflects not just memories of service and sacrifice, but a powerful legacy of empowerment and progress for the nation.
