Raiwaqa Gas Crematorium Project is now in its final stages, marking a significant step in improving funeral services infrastructure in Fiji.

The Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs says under the 2025/2026 financial year, the Ministry has supplied a gas-fired cremator machine for the Raiwaqa Cemetery.

They say the construction of the building has been carried out by the local committee as a Community Self Help Project, reflecting a joint effort between government and the community.

Permanent Secretary Dr. Vinesh Kumar says installation of the cremator machine is expected between late April and early May of this year.

Dr. Kumar says that similar arrangements are also being implemented at Varoka in Ba and Lovu Crematorium in Lautoka, where the Ministry provides the cremator machines while local committees handle construction of the required infrastructure.
Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Charan Jeath Singh says the project is part of ongoing efforts to improve access to modern and efficient funeral services.

He says the gas-fired crematorium initiative is designed to provide environmentally friendly facilities that meet the cultural and spiritual needs of communities, especially in areas with high demand for cremation services.

The Raiwaqa facility is the second project of its kind nearing completion, following the Tuatua Crematorium Project in Labasa.
