A major power outage is currently affecting parts of Viti Levu following damage to a key transmission line caused by ongoing adverse weather conditions.
Energy Fiji Limited says a fault has occurred on the main 132,000-volt transmission line between Wailoa and Nadarivatu, resulting in widespread disruption to electricity supply.
They are yet to provide an estimated time for power restoration.
The outage has left several areas without electricity this evening, including Navua, Pacific Harbour, Lami, and extending through to Nasinu, Nakasi and Nausori.
In the Western Division, fallen power lines are also contributing to disruptions in areas such as Tavakubu Back Road in Lautoka and Old Nadi Back Road.
Earlier today, a fallen tree along Legalega Road in Nadi caused further damage to power lines.
Residents in Ba have remained without electricity since this morning, with no indication yet as to when power will be restored.
Energy Fiji Limited says teams are still working to fully determine the cause of outages in some areas, while restoration efforts are underway.
This includes the use of diesel generators to provide temporary electricity supply where possible.
They are urging members of the public to stay well clear of fallen power lines and to exercise extreme caution.
Any such incidents should be reported immediately to the EFL Emergency line on 913.
EFL adds that due to the current weather conditions, crews are prioritising emergency situations to ensure public safety, and will attend to other reported faults as soon as it is safe and areas become accessible.
