Police investigation is ongoing into last year's Gokals Warehouse fire

Police investigation is ongoing into last year's Gokals Warehouse fire
It has been six months and Police continue to investigate the devastating fire at Gokals Warehouse on 26th July last year, which caused an estimated $8 million in damages.

Authorities have yet to respond fully to queries regarding the investigation report, with no clear explanation for the prolonged delay, leaving key questions about the cause of the blaze unanswered.

The gutted building remains in the same state in Toorak.

The National Fire Authority had earlier confirmed that firefighters faced significant challenges while battling the fire.

According to the Authority, access to the warehouse was hindered by locked roller shutters, forcing firefighters to use bolt cutters and crowbars to gain entry.

The NFA also stated that once inside, efforts to control the flames were further hampered by low water pressure from a nearby hydrant.

They had also raised concerns about the absence of early fire warning systems at the facility as the Gokal Group had not installed the NFA’s Alarm Signalling Equipment, which would have provided real-time alerts of smoke or heat and potentially enabled a faster emergency response.

The cause of the fire remains unconfirmed.

Police say investigations are ongoing and that details will be released once the investigation is concluded.
