People are demanding that proper EFL tariff consultations be held in villages, as those in the rural areas also want to be heard.
Kasavu Village resident Ilisoni Sauleca says there are many people in the village who are unaware of the proposed increase in EFL tariffs adding, the relevant authorities should visit interior villages to conduct consultations, as many people do not travel to towns and cities.

Sauleca, who is a farmer, shares that while he is unhappy about the proposed increase, he will have no choice but to pay it, as he depends on electricity.
Another concerned citizen who wished to remain anonymous says that if the authorities want to increase EFL tariffs, then there should also be a rise in people’s wages.
The man, who works as a security guard and has four children, says that higher utility bills will significantly impact his family.
He attended one of the consultation sessions, where he was asked for his views, informed about the proposed increase, and given a questionnaire to complete.
He also suggests that the FCCC should use a large board or banner to clearly indicate that the consultation is about EFL tariffs, as many passersby are unaware and simply walk past.
A 19-year-old student of the Fiji National University, Seruwaia Vananalagi, says that although her household uses solar power and will not be affected, she is concerned about how low-income families will cope during this time of inflation.
Many people including the Consumer Council of Fiji and the Fiji Employers and Commerce Federation have asked for a review of the electricity tariff decision as it will drastically affect people.
