Our priority is to ensure landowners benefit – TLTB CEO
iTaukei Land Trust Board CEO Solomone Nata

iTaukei Land Trust Board CEO Solomone Nata highlights the Board’s priority is to ensure landowners of the Nasarava Water Catchment, Mataqali Nabukarabe of Nakama Village in Labasa, have formally accepted the terms of a lease that delivers sustainable benefits while supporting Fiji’s development goals.

Nata was responding to recent media reports suggesting there was insufficient consultation with the mataqali.

He says several consultation meetings were held between the landowners, the Department of Lands, and the Water Authority of Fiji to finalise the lease and its conditions.

Nata says the latest consultation was on 28th January 2026, when he chaired a joint meeting with WAF and the Trustees of Mataqali Nabukarabe.

He says following the discussions, the trustees formally accepted the revised lease offer and welcomed its terms, including specific conditions to be included in a Memorandum of Agreement.

TLTB confirms that the landowners have now formally accepted the lease offer.

Nata says the Board remains committed to handling all lease arrangements with transparency, fairness, and integrity.
