Opposition MP Semi Koroilavesau says the Opposition is willing to support amendments to the Constitution of Fiji if the proposed changes genuinely strengthen democracy and benefit the people.

Speaking in Parliament, Koroilavesau emphasised that transparency must guide the government’s ongoing constitutional review process.

He reminded Parliament that similar concerns were raised during last year’s debate on the failed amendment bill, where the Opposition questioned what specific changes the government intended to make and the reasons behind them.

Koroilavesau stressed that transparency should not just be a word used in speeches but must also be reflected in the consultation process.

He says the Opposition would strongly oppose any amendments designed to benefit a few individuals, consolidate political power, or create legal loopholes.

Koroilavesau also called for a thorough and inclusive consultation process so that people across the country clearly understand how the nation’s fundamental law may change.

Meanwhile, the Opposition MP says the integrity of the 2026–2027 elections must be protected from what he described as a new form of digital colonisation.

He says the country cannot have stability if the democratic process is being poisoned by digital lies.

Koroilavesau has also warned against fear and division.

The Opposition MP further says those who claim to be Christians on Sunday but spend the rest of the week spreading the rot of ethnic hatred must reflect on their actions.
