Oxfam in the Pacific has today launched the Pacific Oceanic Women Enhancing Resilience Project and has received $7 million from the Government of Canada to assist women across the Pacific.

Local partners in the Pacific include the Women in Fisheries Network Fiji, the Farm Support Association from Vanuatu, and the Kiribati Climate Action Network.

Speaking at the launch of the project, Canadian Secretary of State for International Development, Randeep Sarai says the initiative strengthens resilience where it matters most.

Sarai says that at the community level, women and girls are empowered to lead, earn a living, and advocate for their rights.

He says when families are strong, communities become resilient, and societies are better prepared to face challenges.

He adds Canada is proud to support this work, noting that empowering women and girls is not only the right thing to do, but one of the smartest investments for inclusive and sustainable development.

Minister for Women Sashi Kiran acknowledged the Government of Canada for its continued support towards priorities in Fiji and across the Pacific.

Kiran says Canada has been a long-term partner and has consistently demonstrated the importance of international partnerships grounded in shared values of equality, justice, and sustainability
