Namosi villager questions where men stand in rights discussions

Leone Rokowai of Veivatuloa Village in Namosi has raised concerns with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights, questioning where men stand if children and women have ministries advocating for their rights.

Rokowai says that while there are ministries dedicated to children and women, there is no similar body representing the interests of men.

He told the committee that the term “rights” feels foreign to him, as it seems to separate Fijian cultural values, traditions, and identity.

Rokowai is calling for equal recognition of men in national policy and development discussions and is urging the committee to ensure that men’s issues are also addressed at the national level.
