A resident of Nawaka Tramline in Nadi has been forced to leave her home with her family after floodwaters inundated the area following heavy rain.

Shayal Prasad told fijivillage News her house is currently flooded, forcing her family to seek shelter at a neighbour’s home on slightly higher ground.

Prasad says water had already entered their home yesterday, before rising again at around 2.15am this morning.

She adds that living near the Nadi River has made flooding a recurring issue whenever there is heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, a river flood warning remains in force for the Nadi River and Tuva River in Nadroga as it continues to be above warning levels while a flood alert remains in place for Ba and Tavua Rivers all low-lying communities near and downstream of these rivers, including floodplain areas.

The Nadi Weather Office says a flood warning remains in force for all low-lying flood-prone areas adjacent to and downstream of the Tuva River in Nadroga, Nawaka River and Nadi River.

A flash flood warning remains in force for Viti Levu while a flash flood alert remains in force for the rest of Fiji.

A strong wind warning remains for the whole of Fiji.

Category 3 Tropical Cyclone Vaianu was located about 260 southwest of Kadavu 360km southwest of Suva at 3am.

TC Vaianu is currently moving south-southwest at about 20km per hour and is expected to lie 410km south of Kadavu or 510km south of Suva this morning.

At its current path, it is expected to continue moving south of Fiji and leave Fiji waters by tonight.
