Mataqali Boutolu urges Police Post in Yasawa village to combat drug issue

Mataqali Boutolu urges Police Post in Yasawa village to combat drug issue

The Mataqali Boutolu from Yasawa believes one solution to a drug-free village is to establish a police post in the area.

42-year-old Aporosa Lesaqele says they have been urging the Government to implement this for better security and safety.

Lesaqele adds that the village of Namara in Yasawa has been expelling villagers involved in drugs and banning them from returning for three years.

He highlights that while the police and Ministry of Health have conducted awareness programs, the issue persists due to their absence.

Lesaqele also shares that the village is surrounded by three resorts, which have become hotspots for drugs, with some tourists allegedly selling and offering them to villagers.

He also points out that many villagers, especially young teenagers working in these resorts, are vulnerable to drugs.

Lesaqele also highlights that restrictions on Kava will be enforced from the 30th of this month to the 10th of October in the village of Namara, Yasawa.

This is due to the village being under the Vuda district and is part of their yearly celebration in remembrance of the arrival of Christianity on their land.

We have sent questions to the police for details on this matter.
