LTA urge drivers to be cautious after two tragic road death

The Land Transport Authority is urging all drivers to exercise caution following two fatal road incidents in the Western Division, which claimed the lives of a woman and a 9-year-old girl.

The first incident occurred around 5am in Martintar, Nadi, when a taxi collided with another vehicle, causing it to hit a woman on the roadside.

The second involved a young girl struck by a vehicle in Korovuto while walking along the road.

LTA Acting CEO Makitalena Drova expressed condolences to the families, emphasising that these tragedies highlight the need for driver attentiveness, speed control, and shared responsibility on the roads.

Drova says drivers must slow down, stay alert, obey speed limits, avoid distractions, and never drive under the influence.

She also urged pedestrians to stay visible, alert, and use designated crossings.

She reminds passengers and Public Service Vehicle (PSV) drivers to promote safety, speak up against reckless driving, and take responsibility for the lives in their care.

The LTA will continue joint operations with the Fiji Police Force to ensure road safety.
