The first woman to be confirmed the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Loraini Seru

Loraini Seru has become the first woman to be confirmed to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), following her promotion to head the Internal Affairs and Professional Standards Unit.

Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu says the confirmation was based on the recommendation of a promotion board established with both internal and external members, ensuring that appointments were made on merit.

Commissioner Tudravu says the appointment marked an important milestone for the Fiji Police Force and is expected to inspire more women officers and young girls aspiring to join the policing profession.

While policies are in place to support the advancement of women within law enforcement, Tudravu stresses that promotions will cntinue to be merit based, urging women officers to take up opportunities when presented.

ACP Seru, who hails from Tonia village with maternal links to Rewasa in Ra, is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Academy in the United States.

ACP Seru joined the policing profession in 1995 and has served in both the Western and Central Divisions before later joining the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters in Toorak.

She was also the first officer to be seconded to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption from 2006 to 2010, after which she undertook a two-year tour of duty in Liberia.

In 2020, ACP Seru was appointed Deputy Chair of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Women Advisory Network. Her achievements were further recognised when she received the Policewoman of the Year award at the 2022 Fiji Police Women Excellence Awards.

She has also obtained certificates from the Australian Institute of Police Management in Sydney and has attended anti-money laundering and fraud training programmes in Korea and New Zealand.
