Assistant Principal Ulaiasi Vakatawakoula highlighted this while speaking on concerns about illicit drugs, smoking, gambling and other harmful activities affecting young people.

As students gathered for the competition, Vakatawakoula says that the programmes such as the inter-house competition, provide healthy alternatives and reinforce discipline and responsibility.
He says the annual event plays a vital role in shaping well-rounded students as education is not only about what happens in the classroom academically, but also about discovering talents on the field, building confidence, strengthening teamwork and developing character.
Four houses competed under mottos rooted in history and faith.
The school says the house mottos are drawn from the actual words of well-known chiefs and Methodist evangelists during the colonial era, reflecting values that continue to guide the school community.
Sairasa Navucioi House (Yellow) competed under the theme “Sacrifice for God’s Glory”.
Jone Bunu House (Green) carried the motto “Live Among the Stars”.
Ratu Laitia Varani House (Blue) upheld “Excellence in Leadership”.
Joshua Mateinani House (Red) competed under the theme “Service to Men is Service to God”.
Each house carried its banner with pride, chanting and cheering as athletes competed on the track and in field events.
Early performances showed significant improvement compared to last year, raising hopes of stronger medal tallies and solid preparation for the upcoming zone competition.
Vakatawakoula says while medals and titles are important, the greater goal is participation and personal growth.
He says they want students to be able to say they have given their best for the school.
He adds that while the school is working hard to improve on last year’s performance and select the best team for the zone, the most important thing is for students to enjoy the experience.
With strong rivalries building and preparations intensifying to defend their zone title, he says the school community remains confident that dedication and teamwork will deliver results.
Parents, guardians, old scholars and supporters from across the Suva–Nausori corridor, including Lami, Rewa, Naitasiri and Tailevu, turned out in numbers to witness the competition and support the students’ talents beyond the classroom.
The 2026 Inter-House Competition ended not only a showcase of athletic ability, but also as a reminder of heritage, faith and leadership — values now carried forward by a new generation of students.
