Labasa Airport reopens tomorrow

Labasa Airport reopens tomorrow
Good news for people in the North as the Labasa Airport will reopen tomorrow following the completion of major runway strengthening works by Fiji Airports.

Fiji Airports says after six weeks of upgrades funded by the World Bank through the Na Vualiku Project, the runway pavement was strengthened, ensuring it meets the required operational standards and supports more efficient aircraft movement.

They say the upgraded infrastructure will better accommodate aircraft operations, delivering safer, more efficient and more reliable services for passengers, airlines, and cargo movements.

Fiji Airports says a vital link for communities and businesses in the Northern Division, Labasa Airport, will continue operating from its temporary terminal, with the runway now fully operational, as preparations for the new terminal proceed.

Fiji Airports Chief Executive Mesake Nawari says this project represents a key investment in the North’s aviation infrastructure.

Nawari says the completion of the runway strengthening works at Labasa Airport ensures safer and more reliable operations, while also supporting economic growth and connectivity for the Northern Division.

He thanked all stakeholders and the people of Labasa for their patience and cooperation throughout the construction period.

The Chief Executive says this development reflects Fiji Airports’ continued commitment to upgrading infrastructure and enabling sustainable growth across the country.

Fiji Airports acknowledges and thanks all partners and stakeholders who contributed to the successful delivery of the project, including the mataqali Nabukarabe of Nakama Village, the World Bank, through the Na Vualiku Project, for funding the project, contractors Flame Tree
Developments, the Labasa business community and residents, and stakeholders in Savusavu for their patience and support during the works.

Fiji Airports looks forward to continuing to work with the Government and the owners of the airports in the Northern Division to serve the people of Vanualevu with improved infrastructure and enhanced service delivery.
