I'm concerned as a father and clear in my responsibilities as a Minister - Tikoduadua
Minister for Defence Pio Tikoduadua

Wearing both the weight of a father and his duty as Minister for Defence, Pio Tikoduadua confirmed today that those who continue to sell drugs will be dealt with.

This was shared with fijivillage News by Tikoduadua outside parliament today, as the Minister said that the government fully supports the coordinated drug operations by the police and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

Tikoduadua says that his daughter was at the checkpoint when the incident happened in Laqere.

He says a joint task force began pursuing the suspects at around 3am, following them to Nakasi and back toward Laqere.

During the operation, his daughter—who was on duty at a checkpoint—was struck and seriously injured.

He confirmed that she is currently in the hospital.

Tikoduadua says the incident highlights the serious risks officers face when responding to drug-related activity.

He says that the incident will be addressed and has asked the public to allow police to complete their investigation.

Tikoduadua says his immediate focus is on his daughter’s recovery, while also supporting officers as they continue their work to keep Fiji safe.
