Heavy rain alert remains as rain expected to continue until Thursday
A heavy rain alert remains in force for the entire Fiji Group as an active trough of low pressure with cloud and rain is gradually approaching Fiji from the west and is expected to affect the group from later today until later Thursday.
The Nadi Weather Office forecasts that this could lead to occasional rain, heavy at times, with a few thunderstorms developing from the west later today and spreading to the rest of the country from tomorrow.
Rain could lead to flash flooding of flood-prone areas, low-lying informal settlements and communities, businesses and Irish Crossings, leading to traffic disruptions.
It could also cause surface flooding on streets in urban areas with poor drainage as well as wet roads and reduced visibility, especially during heavy downpours, increasing the risk of road accidents.
