Health services in Navunikabi Village in Namosi are expected to be boosted following the completion of renovation works at the Navunikabi Nursing Station.
Minister for Health Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu acknowledged the generosity of two donor partners, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), which funded the project, and the World Health Organization (WHO), which implemented the renovation works.
He says the Navunikabi Nursing Station, which was built in 2005, has undergone major renovations, including upgrades to the nursing station and staff quarters, retrofitting, and solarisation works, at a cost of FJ $509,210.
The Minister says these interventions were carried out to strengthen the facility and help build a more resilient health service for the community of Navunikabi Village and surrounding areas.
He adds that a Nurse Practitioner mans the nursing station and serves an estimated population of around 1,500 people.
The facility serves three villages, Navunikabi, Nakavika, and Saliadrau, as well as two primary schools. The nearest health facility to Navunikabi Nursing Station is Naqarawai Nursing Station.
The Minister says the Government remains committed to strengthening primary health care, especially in rural and maritime communities, in line with Universal Health Coverage (UHC), health equity, and the decentralisation of services.
