The Coalition Government, through the Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts, has reinforced its commitment to improving funeral services infrastructure by assisting 35 cemeteries nationwide since the 2024/2025 financial year.
About $400,870 has been invested under the Multi-Ethnic Grants to Community-Based Organisation Programme to support upgrades aimed at making cemeteries safer, more accessible and better maintained.
The funding has been directed towards key improvements including accessibility, fencing, renovations, and overall upgrades.
The Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs says these developments are expected to enhance the condition of cemeteries, allowing families to pay their final respects in a safe and dignified environment.
The upgrades also ensure that funeral and burial rites can be conducted without disruption, even during adverse weather conditions, while improving access for community members.

Minister Charan Jeath Singh says the initiative reflects the Government’s strong commitment to supporting communities at the grassroots level.
He highlighted that the projects are delivered through a one-third and two-third partnership arrangement with community committees.
