Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) assures the public and its stakeholders that Fiji’s electricity supply remains stable and secure,
however, escalated or prolonged global disruptions from recent geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran will impact fuel supply volumes.
EFL says, as a country that relies on imported fuel for a portion of its energy generation, Fiji is not immune to global fuel supply disruptions and price volatility.
They say currently, the country’s electricity generation mix comprises approximately 50 percent to 55 percent renewable energy (hydro, biomass, wind, and solar), with the remaining 45 percent to 50 percent from thermal generation.

They add that these global developments may place upward pressure on generation costs, fuel supply availability, and pose broader challenges for energy systems worldwide.
EFL says at present, there are no immediate constraints on their ability to meet current electricity demand, which has exceeded 200 megawatts (MW).
However, EFL is taking proactive measures to manage potential risks, including the strategic optimization of hydro resources to support sustained electricity generation in the months ahead, as well as possible alternative fuel generation.

EFL says they continue to closely monitor international developments and are working in coordination with fuel suppliers, government agencies, and development partners to ensure operational readiness and a coordinated response.
They say this evolving global situation underscores the importance of a whole-of-country approach to energy security.
EFL is encouraging all Fijians, including households, businesses, and institutions, to play their part by adopting responsible and efficient energy use practices.
They say simple actions, such as switching off unused appliances, using energy-efficient equipment, and reducing unnecessary consumption, can collectively make a meaningful difference in these challenging times.

EFL Chief Executive Officer Fatiaki Gibson says Fiji’s energy sector remains resilient, and he is actively managing emerging risks.
However, he adds that escalated or prolonged global disruptions to physical fuel supply volumes may have downstream adverse impacts.
He says through prudent energy use and a united national effort, we can safeguard our energy security and support continued economic stability.
He says EFL remains committed to ensuring a reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity supply, while continuing its transition towards greater use of renewable energy in line with national priorities.
He adds that the cooperation and collective effort of all Fijians will be critical in maintaining energy security, economic activity, and national well-being during this period of global uncertainty.
