About 40 students in the Fiji National University Choir based at the Natabua Campus have been formally recognised for their contribution to campus life and community engagement during a special ceremony celebrating their achievements.

The students were presented with acknowledgement certificates and cash prizes through the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba, and Pro Vice-Chancellor Learning and Teaching, Professor Jimaima Lako, in recognition of the choir’s participation in various university and community events throughout 2025.

FNU Registrar Shalmendra Chand says the event is an opportunity to celebrate the role the choir plays in strengthening the university community through music.

Chand says while service is often associated with classrooms and laboratories, the choir demonstrated another form of service by uplifting spirits and bringing people together through their performances.

He notes that music has a unique ability to connect people, adding that the choir’s performances reflected the university’s core values of care, honesty, accountability, service and excellence.

He also acknowledged the contribution of music lecturers Lasarusa Daveta and Waisake Rabuatoka, saying their guidance and commitment had helped set a positive tone for the new academic year.
