Eleta Vakaweka takes produce to Lami to fund children's school needs
As the festive season continues, Eleta Vakaweka from Wainimakutu Village in Namosi has started selling her produce in Lami Town to prepare for her children’s back-to-school needs.

Vakaweka told fijivillage News that she left her village at 10pm last night, determined to earn money for her children’s education next year.

She says her eldest child is in in Year 5, her second in Year 4, and her youngest in Year 2.

The 40-year-old says she planted all her produce in the village, including bananas, passionfruit, tomatoes, chillies, cabbage, lemons, taro leaves, and cassava.

Vakaweka believes that a child’s education should not be the sole responsibility of the father and that mothers must also contribute.

She is urging parents and guardians to start buying school supplies early and not leave it to the last minute, as prices are likely to rise closer to the new school year.

Vakaweka also adds that parents should not be relying on government assistance and should always try their best to provide for their children’s education through their own efforts.
