Eid brings communities together in celebration and sharing
Eid, a major celebration for Muslims worldwide, is a time when the community opens their homes, lives and hearts to people of all backgrounds, sharing the joy and spirit of the occasion.

This was highlighted by Taabish Akbar, Chairman of the Fiji Muslim League Suva Branch, as members gathered at the Toorak Jame Masjid to offer prayers and thank Allah for giving them the strength to complete Ramadan.

Akbar says their prayer started at 7.30am, with around 700 to 800 people in attendance.

Speaking to fijivillage News, he says Eid is a time of celebration, though recent events around the world have also made it a sad occasion.

“We pray for everyone who is suffering,” he said.

The Chairman also spoke about the importance of engaging youth, saying the League is organizing programs to help young people stay away from social ills, particularly drug abuse, which he noted is a growing problem in Fiji.

Meanwhile, Head Priest and National Quran Coordinator, Mufti Mohammed Zaeem highlighted that Eid is also a time to remember those in need.

He says a portion of money must be distributed to the underprivileged before Eid so they too can celebrate the occasion.
