Concerns over classroom shortages, deteriorating infrastructure and security risks have been raised at Korociriciri Primary School in Nausori during a visit by Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro.

The visit was part of ongoing engagements to better understand challenges affecting students and teachers.

The Ministry of Education says urgent infrastructure and safety issues were identified, including a shortage of classrooms for Years 1 and 2, poor ventilation and excessive heat, leaking roofs, damaged gutters and fascia boards, and a low-lying school hall vulnerable to water leakage.

They say security concerns were also highlighted, including damaged fencing, a faulty entrance gate, and the need for burglar bars.

They add that renewal of the school’s land lease is critical for long-term stability and future development.

The Minister reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to resolving urgent infrastructure and safety concerns to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for students and teachers.

He emphasised that direct school visits remain important in guiding practical, responsive solutions to priority needs.

The Ministry says similar engagements will continue nationwide to strengthen school infrastructure and improve learning conditions.
