Four astronauts have lifted off from Kennedy Space Center in Florida to attempt to journey around the moon as part of the Artemis II mission.
The crew includes NASA’s Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch along with the Canadian Space Agency’s Jeremy Hansen.
This is the first crewed moon mission since 1972.
The historic and risky lunar venture will mark the first time astronauts return to the vicinity of the moon in more than 50 years.
The mission could travel farther from Earth than any human ever has, breaking the Apollo program’s distance record.
Before countdown began, NASA resolved an issue related to the SLS rocket’s flight termination system.
It also said it fixed a battery problem, saying it will not affect today’s launch.
