Woman gets 'prank' Australian wedding to influencer annulled, after finding out it was for real

A woman in Australia has had her wedding annulled, after the event she thought was just a “prank” turned out to be the real thing.

In an October 2024 family court judgment published this week, a judge annulled the December 2023 marriage after finding the bride “believed she was acting in a social media event”.

The woman, who can’t be named for legal reasons, told the court she met the man on a dating app in September 2023.

They remained in touch for three months, and then the man invited her to a “white party” in Sydney in December, the judgment said.

But when she arrived at the venue she didn’t see anyone in white and wanted to leave.

She says the man told her that he’s organising a prank wedding for his Instagram, because he wants to boost his content and wants to start monetising his Instagram page.

In footage of the ceremony played in court, the woman appeared to be “enthusiastically” taking part, but she told the court it was “all an act”.

She only found out the wedding was real after the man asked her to add his name to her application for permanent residency in Australia.
